Tchoukball Inc and Tchoukball Promotion were founded in 2002 by Pierre-Alain Girardin.
In 2002, Tchoukball was unknown in the U.S.A. especially in schools and recreation departments. Because of Pierre’s energy and endless effort to promote the game of Tchoukball, it has now been taught in over 500 schools throughout the country. Therefore, if you have heard about Tchoukball thanks to the newly Tchoukball advocates in the U.S.A. and to him!
Pierre-Alain Girardin, Tchoukball expert, and impresario, considers physical activities as part of his life. Girardin, 48, grew up in Switzerland and as an adult continued to practice soccer, skiing, alpinism, rock-climbing, sailing and even the triathlon. The sport dearest to him is Tchoukball, which he learned in 1996. By 2002, he had participated in three international tournaments as both player and referee. He coached and played for Team Canada in the 2002 World Tournament in Great Britain. Currently Pierre is head coach of both the Women and Men U.S.A. Tchoukball Teams.
Pierre’s vision is to introduce Tchoukball into the U.S.A. especially in Physical Education, in schools, and in recreation department. He is convinced about the Educational aspect of Tchoukball and what benefits it can bring to players. Tchoukball can help students experience the inclusion within a team, make them active, enjoy playing, increase their self-confidence, and teach them good social behavior as respect to each other, and honesty.
Pierre works with physical education and recreation professionals to augment their programs. He meets daily with teachers, coaches and players, to demonstrate the game, provide training and coach youth and adult community teams. Over three hundred schools have integrated Tchoukball into their physical education classes. In each school, Pierre works with the teachers, coaches the students and runs tournaments.
Three local schools offer Tchoukball as an after-school activity. Last year, Prince William County, VA, was the first school system to integrate Tchoukball into its curriculum. In 2005, Sport4all a non-for profit organization, based in Maryland, introduced Tchoukball to children from 6 to 8 in a summer program. Community teams, in Bethesda, MD, meets weekly to play at a local high school. in 2007, Bellevue and Renton Community services introduced Tchoukball as family activity, and youth league in their community centers.
Thank you to all the Associate Professors, Physical EDUCATION teachers, and Tchoukball advocates, who had the courage and the energy to introduce a new team game to their students. Without them this endeavor would have not been possible.
Please, for the enjoyment of your players, make sure that you introduce the game with U.S.TB.A. certified Tchoukball equipment!
